Seeds to Sow Now: Autumn Edition

IMG_4302.jpg

Four days into autumn and I think it has rained almost constantly since March 1st. I have never seen the weather being so well behaved. Talk about not challenging the status quo, man.

Given that autumn has been lovely and predictable so far, it seems like the time is ripe to get your winter veggie seeds into the ground! So I’ve made you a handy dandy downloadable-printable guide!

You might not know this (I didn’t for ages), but a lot of spring-flowering seeds can be planted in autumn as well as in spring. They essentially have two sowing seasons. Thing is, if you’re prepared, it’s usually much better to plant these seeds in autumn as it gives the plants many more months to grow and establish themselves, leading to bigger, healthier plants and more blooms in spring. So it’s a great time to get your spring flowers started too. Click below to grab a copy of the guide and get seedy!

If the rainy weather and softening earth are making your green thumbs throb, have a read of my favourite gardening jobs to get stuck into this autumn.

In other very exciting news Monty Don has made a podcast or, I guess more accurately, Gardener’s World has made a podcast (but we alllllll know who we’re there for and it is most certainly that leggy, braces-wearing, plant-rearing stud!). You can listen through this website (or just download it on whatever podcast app you use). I’m only about 20 minutes in and already loving it! Monty Don on a gardening podcast - my life’s dreams have been actualised!

Alright, that’s it from me for this week! Join in next week for an extended rant about how to grow the perfect sweet peas (my current, thoroughly researched obsession), and a discussion on what manures to use for different types of plants (it’s gonna be a stinkin’, wormy, rollicking good time!)

Happy gardening!

xx Casey
